At Ardea Candles, we believe safety is paramount when it comes to candle development.
They are fully certified for in-house testing Q1 2016 - ISO 17025 and are UKAS accredited to test to the EU standards including fire safety, sooting and labelling. All our candles have been developed to pass these tests.
All our products come with a safety label which you can find underneath the product itself. We include both candle care guides on our labelling as well any allergens that need to be identified. All our labels are fully CLP compliant. This is to ensure our customers are well informed on the correct and sensible use of our products.
Please take extra care to read the product care information which comes with each candle, or refer to our candle care section on the website.
Wet spots or frosting on a candle are very common and natural characteristics of pure vegetable waxes and are most often caused by changes in temperature.Â
They are purely aesthetic and absolutely do not affect the scent throw or burning properties of the candles.
Often, the candle appearance will self-correct once the candle is burning and heating the jar.Â
If your candle is producing puffs of smoke, there are a couple of possible explanations. First, make sure the wick is trimmed before each burn to maximum of 1cm. This is important for keeping the flame burning properly and preventing smoke.
Additionally, drafts can also cause the flame to flicker and produce smoke. Examples of this could be when the candle is placed near a window, door, vent, or in a spot where people frequently pass by. Unless the smoke is constant, there is no need to worry.
For safety reasons, it is important to always burn candles on heat-resistant surfaces and to extinguish and discontinue when there is no less than half an inch of wax, typically this is the top of the wick holder.
The reason for this is because the glass may become too hot on the bottom as the wick nears the base, potentially causing cracking, breaking, or other damage. Both candle makers and retailers typically recommend this practice.
